In a new venture for the region, the recently announced Genghis Khan Aviation Training Center is set to become the first aviation academy in Inner Mongolia.
The academy is to be used to train pilots, flight attendants and aircraft maintenance technicians who will be fed into the region’s first airline, Genghis Khan Airlines, which commenced operations in 2019. The academy is also slated to provide training programmes for air traffic controllers, safety inspectors and other civil aviation professionals.
The project, which is being supported by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) and local government, has been instigated to provide a local aviation training resource which is currently lacking in Inner Mongolia, which has meant that Genghis Khan Airlines has had to look outside the region up until now for its training and resourcing needs.
The opening of Genghis Khan Aviation Training Center now aims to fill the gap and accelerate recruitment into the region’s airline, which is the first to exclusively use Chinese made aircraft, namely the Comac ARJ21regional airliner, which the academy’s Level-D simulators are designed around.
With a fleet of five ARJ21s, and 20 more on order, Genghis Khan Airlines is headquartered at Hohhot Baita International Airport in the region’s capital.
